Are my llamas guanacos?

Post  CateM on Wed Apr 25, 2012 5:18 pm

Does anyone know how I can tell whether my llamas are actually guanacos?
I was given a pair of llamas last year and just assumed they were llamas until a combination of things made me wonder whether they are in fact guanacos. They are very big- 6' to the top of their heads - fawny/apricot coloured, with white underbelly and black on their legs and faces. They can jump really high and I've had to put in 6' fencing to keep them in over the winter. Out of interest, I had a look on YouTube at some video of vicunas and guanacos and the wild guanacos look just like my llamas, only thinner.
I've tried to work out how to put a photo in here, but can't seem to do it. I'd be grateful if any guanaco owners could tell me what they think I might have!
Thanks

No answer after a year. Do you want me to get the email addresses of some people who could perhaps answer your question? Caroline (carolinejanechampion@yahoo.com)

Thanks for the offer, but don't worry. I'm pretty sure there is a large percentage of guanaco in them.
